Current Events News Reports Student Directions

Your goal is to keep your classmates informed of the latest news in your area of expertise of the week. Your assignment is to prepare a news report on the topic you are given to be presented in front of the class and then handed in immediately afterwards.

Deadlines: The news will be presented live every Monday. You will be docked 20pts if you miss a deadline and do not hand in a report. You will be rotated every week among the following topics so you will do a different report every week. You will rotate one topic down every week.

International news:

-U.S. government and Politics: U.S. relations with other countries, the President, Congress, Supreme Court, or Cabinet members.

-The Americas: All of North and South America except the U.S. (for example: Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Cuba, Panama, etc.)

-Asia, Near East and the Pacific: China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Australia, Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, etc.)

-Europe: England, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Russia, Baltic States, Croatia, Serbia)

-Middle East and Africa: Iraq, Iran, Israel, Palestine, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya,
Algeria, Sudan, Somalia, etc.                                                                                                                                                       -

National News:

-Economy/Business: Stock Market, interest rates, unemployment, banking, investing,
business, companies, etc.                                                                                          .

-Arts/Entertainment: Theatre, movies, famous people, television, radio, museums, exhibits, artists, etc.

-Science/Health: New developments in science, space exploration, technology, natural disasters, disease, vaccinations, medicines, etc.

-State/Local: State government, governor, new or proposed state laws, events which affect this part of the country, town news, board of education issues, etc.

-Sports: New records, tournament results, athletes or teams in the news (please, no individual game results)

Sources: You may use the newspapers, magazines, or an on-line news reporting agency. Please cut out or print out all articles used to be handed in with your report. Some newspapers on-line are :

-Helpful magazines and newspapers can be found in the library also.

-Your current events report must be at least % of a page long and the articles and sources with it.

-Either type it or write it in your best handwriting.

-Include your name, the date the report is due, the topic you were assigned, the name of the different articles, and the source.
