Federal Budget and Debt assignment

1.  Go to the following url:  http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/NPGateway

2.  Create a line graph to show the national debt over the last 6 months.  Find

     figures for the same day of each month.  (You must have a different day than

     someone else)

3.  Create a bar graph to show the national debt over the last 10 years.

4.  Analyze the following periods of time in U.S. History and the national debt

     during those years:

                                    -Civil War

                                    -Roaring Twenties

                                    -WW I-when we came back  (1914-1918)

                                    -WW II-when we entered (1941-1945)

                                    -Great Depression

                                    -Regan Economics

                                    -Debt today after the war with Iraq

5.  Find the years of these events, average the debt for these years and create

     a timeline with the averages in dollar amounts for these eras in U.S. history.  They are not in order.

6.  Write a list of 10 things (minimum) that one can deduce from the charts you

     created and any other research that you have done that either amaze you or

     surprise you about past and present debt.
